Help us plan for the future management of our reserves
WHO? We are seeking your ideas for inclusion in a draft Golden Bay Ward Reserve Management Plan.
WHAT? Tell us which reserves you use regularly, what you value most about them, and any changes you would like to see to the way they are used or managed.
WHEN? This initial consultation round opens on 23 January 2026 and ends on 30 March 2026.
You'll have another opportunity to make a written submission and attend a hearing once the draft RMP document is publicly notified (in September 2026).
WHERE? Council administers over 200 parcels of land, managed as park/reserve areas, within the Golden Bay Ward area. View their locations on the map linked to this page.
WHY? With the exception of Local Purpose reserves, all types of reserves under the control of/vested in an administering body (in this case, the Tasman District Council) must be covered by an approved management plan, under s41 of the Reserves Act 1977.
The first reserve management plan for Golden Bay Ward was adopted in 2003, and the Tata Beach RMP was adopted in 2007. It is recommended that plans are reviewed at least once every 10 years, meaning both RMPs are well overdue for review. We intend to produce a single RMP for all parks and reserves in Golden Bay Ward, including Tata Beach reserves.
HOW? Tell us ideas by:
- using the online engagement tools on this project page (fill out the online survey/fast feedback)
- filling out a hard-copy survey form (available at Council's office and library in Tākaka)
- posting us your feedback:

Tell us what you love about specific parks and reserves and how you'd like to see them managed in future.
We want to hear your thoughts and ideas about Council-administered parks and reserves located within Golden Bay Ward. Your feedback will help us to develop draft reserve management plans for these reserves.
Tell us what you love about your favourite parks and reserves, whether they could be improved in any way and what your long-term vision is for them. How would you like them to be 10 to 20 years from now? We'd also like to learn more about how people currently use the reserves.
We'd really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete this survey. All questions are optional - answer as many or as few as you like. Thank you!
