Expectations

What the budget will let us do and what we can't afford

With assistance from the Motueka community we are proposing to build a community pool complex.

Early plans for the centre are potentially for it to have a lane pool, a learn to swim and a toddlers pool, possibly a hydrotherapy pool and spa.

Here's an idea of what it could look like.

We will want to hear from you as we develop the plans.

We'll be looking for your input on what the development looks like. For example, colour schemes, how the facility's features are configured, even ideas for landscaping and styling.

But we must ensure this new community pool fits within the set budget of around $20 million.

The complex will focus on activities including fitness, learn to swim and things like school swimming competitions.

So, features like wave pools, hydro-slides, lazy rivers, diving boards, even a cafe won't fit within the budget.

While this would be a cool pool, it doesn't fit the budget!

What do community pools look like in other places?

We been in touch with several towns and cities around the country to find out what their community pools look like.

They've sent us these pictures and given us an idea of what you can get for your money.

Before we take the plunge, we'd like to hear from you.

Remember we are working together within fairly tight budget, but we'd still like to know what's important to you (max 140 characters).

I would like to see an open and airy space.

Can we buy the plans from another district council rather than needing to do full architecture from the start. Hydrotherapy pool excellent

Looks like Wānaka is a good model to follow, keep it focussed on swimming/learn to swim, not a leisure centre.

I like concept. perhaps room left for hopefuls. a cafeteria, or min. a coffee cart good for community interaction for those waiting swimers!

So excited!! Go with the best you can afford, at least 6 lanes, learn to swim/ hydrotherapy pool and spa pool a must. Nice changing rooms.

Awesome, I really like the focus on getting the most out of the budget. Lots of natural light please! Big windows and skylights.

This is not an essential service and from my perspective this will only burden already stretched Rate payers with another unnecessary cost.
