• Māpua’s Streets for People project is about to hit

    Work is scheduled to start in the next couple of weeks and will take about eight weeks. The job will be done in three stages and during this time there will be some diversions and traffic disruptions between 6.00 am and 6.00 pm on weekdays.

  • Students help get Māpua on the move

    The voice of young people is being heard in our Streets for People project as we focus on improving the safety of all users of Aranui Road in Māpua. We began last September with a workshop with year seven and eight students from Māpua School to come up with a list of benefits and barriers to walking and cycling to school.

  • Riders enjoy new Richmond cycle lanes

    Salisbury Road’s new test layout of separated cycle lanes is in place and seems popular with users.

    This is the first phase of our Waka Kotahi funded $2.4 million Richmond Streets for People project, which will begin to create a complete network of safe walking and cycling spaces in our streets.

  • Streets for People Funding Announced

    Major road safety improvements are on the way for Richmond and Māpua with a significant funding boost announced by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

  • Community Working Groups Established

    A bold new plan to improve the safety and comfort of cyclists and pedestrians in Richmond and Māpua is taking shape. The Richmond Streets for People project received government funding of $2.4 million while $840,000 has been earmarked for Māpua, to shape the beginnings of a network of safe walking and cycling spaces in our streets.

    Tasman District Council’s Streets for People programme is beginning to take shape and we are now seeking input from the wider Richmond and Māpua communities in a baseline safety survey.
