The new crossings and intersection improvements have been completed much to the delight of users, especially the parents and students of Parklands School.

Two new raised crossings will help pedestrians, cyclists, scooters and mobility vehicles to get from one side of Pah Street to the other and across Talbot Street. The footpath has been widened, along with road markings to encourage considerate and safe shared use of the space.

In October, Parklands School Principal Andrea Smith spoke to media about her concern for the children’s safety. She was also alarmed at the speed at which cars swung into Talbot St.

‘It has always been my biggest nightmare, out there - the speed that vehicles travel past our school is just not okay.”

She reached out to the Council, and the Transport Choices Motueka team liaised with her to work towards solutions that would keep the children safer as they navigated the streets by foot or bike.

Feedback online has also been positive.

Project update 05 November 2023

Preparation work for the shared path is underway with kerbs installed.

Cabling for streetlights has been laid and new sumps and a manhole have been constructed.

Work is getting underway on Pah Street.

From now until mid-December we will be upgrading the existing pedestrian crossing to a raised pedestrian crossing and upgrading the Pah Street and Talbot street intersection.

There will be a partial road closure while the work occurs.
