Job Done!

Richmond School is rapt with safety improvements.

Another road safety improvement project in central Richmond has wound up, and users love the improvements.

We’ve done the work to increase the safety of students travelling to and from Richmond school, and to link in with its wider programme upgrading Richmond’s active travel network.

The upgrades have resulted in two new raised crossings that will slow traffic around the school while increasing the visibility of the children who use the crossings.

Footpaths have also been widened and a small number of car parks that obstructed views have been removed.

School principal Tim Brenton has welcomed the changes and is rapt with the job that’s been done and says it’s so much safer for the children from the school.

Dorset Street, Church Street and Cambridge Street safety upgrades.

With a school roll of more than 500 and growing, an upgrade of the streets around the Richmond School neighbourhood is vital to ensure the safety of students and families attending the school.

We've already started this project with the weekday closure of Church Street to through traffic during school hours to ensure children can get safe access to the school's playing fields on the opposite side of the road.

Portable bollards are rolled out daily to close the road.

Work is underway!

Road safety work is happening on streets around Richmond School.

Our contractor Downer Construction will be constructing two raised pedestrian crossings on Dorset and Cambridge streets and a pedestrian raised table on the intersection of Church and Gladstone Road.

The work will assist in slowing vehicle speeds in the neighbourhood and improve pedestrian access.

Work is happening on Dorset and Cambridge streets and should be finished by Friday 02 February.

The work on the Church Street/Gladstone Road intersection is scheduled to start on Tuesday 30 January and take about a week.

There will be some road closures and detours while the work is being done which you can see in the pictures below.
