New Life for Old Scout Den

Submissions have now closed.

Plans are afoot to give the old Wakefield Scout Den a new lease of life.

Scouting New Zealand owned the building but no longer needed it, so sold it to Nelson Tasman Kindergarten Association.

While the membership of the Scouts dropped to the point where there were no regular troop meetings at the den, there’s growing demand for places at kindergarten.

Re-purposing the former Scout building will involve a significant upgrade and include things like a new fenced outdoor play area, some car parking, and utility spaces.

Now that the ownership of the building sits with the Kindergarten Association, it needs a new ground lease to use the reserve land.

The Kindergarten Association has asked us for a lease for five years, with two rights of renewal of 10 years each.
