Council is refreshing the structure plan for Māpua. We want to hear from current and future residents, and anyone with an interest in the area. We're seeking your views on how Māpua should grow, while making sure new development and redevelopment is done in a way that maintains and adds to its character.

This project aims to help meet growing housing demand in Richmond by providing for much needed new homes. We will achieve this through the creation of a structure plan for the area south of Richmond towards hope, designed with involvement from landowners, neighbouring communities, and potential future residents.

An important part of the process to create the new Tasman Environment Plan is identifying the District's special places and giving them extra protections to help preserve the uniqueness of the environment, the area’s history, or provide people with access to the outdoors. Tasman's Outstanding Natural Landscapes, Outstanding Natural Features, and Coastal Environment have been mapped and concept rules are being developed.

Rising sea levels will have increasing implications for development and infrastructure in coastal areas along with environmental, cultural, economic, and societal effects. By coming together this year to look at what we know about sea level rise and coastal hazards in Tasman, and our options for adapting, we'll be better prepared for future decision-making.

In late 2020, Tasman District Council policy planners and councillors visited centers across the district to hear from our communities about their environmental and development issues and opportunities, and what makes our district special.
