Wakefield Brightwater Urban Growth Plan Changes meeting Monday 8 June

June 3, 2026

Tasman is growing, and the district is planning for new homes while balancing intensification with carefully located greenfield development. Change 1 to the Regional Policy Statement and Plan Change 81 to the Tasman Resource Management Plan aim to provide for a mix of homes, including townhouses and apartments, a faster and more predictable consenting process and a focus on growth near centres, services, and transport options.

The plan focuses on existing urban areas such as Richmond, Brightwater, Māpua, Motueka, Wakefield and Tākaka. It also includes design standards in a new medium density residential zone for building height, setbacks, sunlight, and privacy to help ensure new development fits the long-term needs of the district. Public notification of Plan Change 81 and Change 1 to the Regional Policy Statement is planned for mid-June.

A ‘Meet the Planners drop-in session’ will be held at Wakefield Village Hall on Monday 8 June from 5.30pm to 7.00pm, with a plan change and notification presentation at 5.45pm. This will be followed by questions and answers, and visitors to the event can also talk with planners in person about their properties, accessing online maps and the steps in making formal feedback.

Previously ‘Meet the Planners drop-in sessions’ took place in the last week of May in Tākaka, Mapua, Richmond and Motueka.
